Dogs a threat to our bird visitors

At this time of year, the Leschenault Estuary is home to over 70 species of shorebirds.  Some of these are  "tourists".  Around 21 species fly here from as far away as Siberia and Alaska. Every year they need to rest and recuperate to build up their fat stores in order to fly safely home again.  If dogs chase the birds, they use valuable energy to escape harm.  Remember to walk dogs in designated areas, or on a lead, and hopefully we'll see the birds return again next year.  If you'd like more information, contact Sue Kalab at BirdLife Bunbury on 9791 4550.
